The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society
Who are we?

The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society believes in an aspirational, inclusive, just, equitable and eco-friendly society where all people may grow, enjoy a quality of life which is sustainable, and engage in productive and meaningful relationships. In such a society nobody is side-lined, and human rights and dignity are respected

In its relatively short tenure, since 2014, the Wellbeing Foundation has been able to deploy scientific evidence as well as on-the-ground experience to make real differences in the quality of life and wellbeing enjoyed by the members of society in Malta

The Foundation works towards achieving Positive Social Change through
Research and Advocacy
The Foundation tirelessly advocates for active citizenship and social responsibility to one another as human beings, at community level, nationally as well as internationally.
Training & Technical Assistance
The Foundation works at developing national toolkits so as to provide training in areas that are related to child participation and essential skills for working with children.
Safe Spaces
The Foundation creates and provides safe spaces for human interaction and dialogue.
Alliances, and Community-based projects
The Foundation believes in promoting collaboration and therefore works in bringing together alliances and partnerships with civil society organisations, and with other institutions, both national and international.
What is this project?
Children’s Local Councils
In 2022 the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society successfully secured €200,000 in direct EU funds, with RIGHTS: Children’s Local Councils being one of 10 projects shortlisted by the EU from 154 projects submitted. The RIGHTS: Children’s Local Councils Project is an EU funded project which aims to establish local and regional children’s councils across Malta and Gozo.

It paved the way for a collaboration with three local stakeholders: the Ministry for Education, Youth, Research and Innovation, the Ministry for Heritage, Arts and Local Government, and the Local Councils Association to provide the funding and framework to get these children’s councils up and running.

The foundation of this project is the wholehearted belief in the meaningful and rightful participation of children in their communities. Through this project, emphasis is being made on the need to amplify children’s voices and to protect those voices. Children, like everyone else, have the right to be heard in their communities and to be given an opportunity to contribute as active citizens in their locality.
