Why do we need RIGHTS: Local Children’s Councils?
RIGHTS: The Children Local Councils is a project that is working to have a children’s council in every town and city. The Children’s Local Councils aim to provide children with a safe space where you can give your opinions on matters that interest you, be yourself, and dream big. Whether it’s planning fun events, advocating for important causes, or sharing your thoughts on how to improve our community, the council is your stage!
This is the chance for you as children to have the power to change your communities!
    Who is leading the project?
The RIGHTS project is being led by the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society. The Foundation works with children and for children, by making their voices heard loud and clear.

There are also other entities working on this project:
-MEYR – Ministry for Education, Sports, Youth, Research and Innovation
-MHAL – Ministry for National heritage, the Arts and Local Government
    -LCA – Local Councils Association

    Why have you been invited?
At the moment, local councils are only made up of adults. However, adults are not the only people who live in towns and cities. Children also live in these places, so they should have a chance to speak up about topics that affect the places where they live.
You have been invited to participate in your local children’s council to dicuss your needs, opinions, worries and ideas about places that you live in.
How will the children’s local councils work?
You are invited to join your local children’s council once a month, after school, on different days of the week. Dates of the meetings will be communicated to you as soon as you apply.
EVERYONE is welcome to join, so feel free to bring your friends, cousins, neighbours, or anyone who lives in your town or city who is between the ages of 6 to 16 to be part of this important project!
