As a volunteer
What will I be doing?
As a mentor, your primary role will be to coordinate and facilitate the children’s council meetings in your own locality, ensuring one meeting is held each month. While meetings may not always have a set agenda, your responsibility is to create a space where children can discuss matters important to them.

You will also be responsible for:

  1. Forwarding the children’s feedback to the local council.
  2. Ensuring that the meeting spaces are safe for the children.
  3. Enforcing a safeguarding policy, which will be provided to you, along with safeguarding training to help you implement the policy effectively.

The most crucial part of your role is to promote child participation in your locality. This involves ensuring that the voices of the children are heard by the local council and that their feedback is considered in decision-making processes.

Will I be provided with training?
Child Participation Training
As part of this project, you will receive comprehensive training in child participation and safeguarding to ensure the initiative is successful and impactful.

This training will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to create meaningful opportunities for children to express their views, share their ideas, and actively contribute to decision-making processes. You'll learn strategies to engage children effectively, foster their confidence, and ensure their voices are genuinely heard and valued.

Child Safeguarding:
Safeguarding is a critical aspect of working with children. This training will help you understand how to create a safe environment for children to participate. You will learn how to recognize and respond to potential risks, implement safeguarding policies, and maintain the highest standards of safety and care during all interactions.
These training sessions are designed to empower you to confidently fulfill your role, ensuring the project meets its goals of amplifying children’s voices while prioritizing their safety and well-being.
